NEW! Student Loan Payment Protection Benefit - Professionals who are in fields like Law, often leave school with a significant student loan burden that will need to be paid, even in the event of a disability. This built in benefit can provide you up to a maximum of $200,000 to help repay a qualified Financial Lending Institution for an eligible loan incurred to pay for undergraduate and/or graduate education if you are age 45 year or younger and reside in the state of Texas. The benefit will cease the earliest of the following: when you are no longer receiving an LTD benefit, or the date you attain age 50, or when your loan obligations are satisfied, or when you die.

Monthly benefit amounts range from $500 to $15,000 and $2,000 if you are age 65 or older. Your monthly coverage amount, plus any other disability income coverage you may have, cannot exceed 66⅔% of your monthly earned income.

You can receive disability benefits if you cannot perform the duties of your regular occupation because of a disability, you are under the regular care of a doctor, and you incur a loss of income of 20% or more.

Yes. We understand you may be partially disabled and still able to work part-time. If you are disabled and working and incur a loss in monthly earnings of 20% or more as a result of your disability, you will receive a monthly benefit based on your percentage of lost earnings.

You choose how soon you receive monthly benefits—after 90 or 180 days while disabled and not working. Your elimination period for a period of disability while you are working is 180 days. (This is called the Elimination Period.) Before deciding, consider your personal finances and how long you can cover your bills without your regular income.

Your coverage under the SBOT Long Term Disability Insurance Plan will begin on the first day of the month after you have been approved and have paid the first premium, and are actively at work.

Any disability for which you received medical treatment, consultation, care or services, including diagnostic measures, or took prescribed drugs or medicines, or followed treatment recommendation in the 12 months just prior to your effective date of coverage would not be covered for the first 12 months of coverage. Or you had symptoms for which an ordinarily prudent person would have consulted a health care provider in the 12 months just prior to your effective date of coverage or the date an increase in benefits would otherwise be available.

The SBOT Long Term Disability Insurance Plan does not cover any disabilities caused by, contributed to by, or resulting from: Intentionally self-inflicted injuries; war, declared or undeclared, or any act of war; or pre-existing condition.

Disabilities due in whole or in part to mental illness have a limited pay period of 24 months during your lifetime, as described in the Certificate of Coverage.

The SBOT Long Term Disability Insurance Plan comes with a satisfaction guarantee. Once you receive your Certificate of Coverage, read it over carefully. If the plan does not meet your expectations, return it within 30 days of receipt. Any premiums paid will be refunded to you.
